Greyhound Dog Breeders

One of the most fascinating breeds of in the canine world is the Greyhound. Known for their speed — they can run faster than 40 miles per hour — and agility, this dog was originally bred for coursing — basically, hunting as in the pursuit of game — due to their amazing eyesight and swiftness. In addition to their physical attributes, they have an outstanding temperament which makes them an incredible dog to own as a pet — especially given their proclivity to get along well with kids and other animals. It is no surprise, then, that there are many Greyhound dog breeders in the world today. Many who breed the animals for pets and many who breed the animal for its most common purpose, dog racing.

Even though many Greyhounds come to be pets through the adoption of retired racing Greyhounds, there are still many, many people out there who wish to own a dog from puppy-hood; as such, they prefer to purchase their new family member from reputable Greyhound dog breeders. Breeding Greyhounds is quite an adventure as well. Since Greyhound pups have a lot of energy, and those who are bred for pets will likely never see the inside of a race track, they will need to have a creative outlet for this hyperactivity. Once the Greyhound pup learns to properly channel his energy in to a constructive activity — Frisbee, perhaps? — then they will become a valued and loved member of the family because they will no longer seek to unleash their energy on any unsuspecting pair of shoes or newspaper.

As for Greyhound dog breeders themselves, they take their work very seriously with the ultimate goal being to produce quality puppies for either pets or racing. However, you will not find those who breed for the sport of racing to breed for pets, too. They are mostly concerned with bloodlines, temperament and speed — in fact, there are only 28 active Greyhound sires currently in the World who are bred to be the proud pops to young racers. For those who breed strictly for pets, they also breed for temperament since these dogs often find themselves in homes with young children. Also, since the Greyhound is typically a docile dog, breeding for this trait is fairly easy and a highly beneficial and desired outcome. It is certainly not a problem to find a wonderful pet if you purchase your new Greyhound from respectable Greyhound dog breeders.
